In accordance with the structural changes in the departments of Sumgait University dated 29.03.2017 (Protocol No. 06), the Department of History and its Teaching Methodology was established, which was merged with the Department of Ancient World and Medieval Europe and the United States of America. The main scientific publications of the department in recent years:

In the last 5 years, 5 textbooks, 10 monographs, more than 40 subject programs, 2 methodical materials, more than 400 articles and theses (more than 70 of them abroad) were published by the employees of the department. Employees of the department prepared subject syllabi for 27 undergraduate and 24 graduate levels.

The staff of the department have scientific relations with the History Institute of ANAS named after A.A.Bakikhanov, Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of ANAS, Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS named after Academician Z. Bunyadov, Baku State University, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Mingachevir State University.

Associate Professor S.S. Maharramova was awarded the ‘Progress’ medal by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 16, 2022, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sumgait State University and for her services in the development of education in Azerbaijan.

According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers dated May 25, 2012, Associate Professor H.N. Hasanova was awarded the honorary title ‘Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic’ in the field of Science.

Associate Professor R.V. Ahmadov was awarded an Honorary Decree by the Rector of Sumgait State University on October 5, 2023, for his long-term effective scientific and pedagogical activities, active participation in the public affairs of the university, and on the occasion of October 5 International Teachers' Day.

Associate Professor S.S. Karimli was awarded an Honorary Order by the Committee of the Free Trade Union of Education Workers of Azerbaijan on October 5, 2016, on the occasion of the International Teachers' Day, for his effective scientific and pedagogical activity. On October 5, 2021, S.S.Karimli was awarded an honorary degree by the rector of Sumgait State University for effective scientific and pedagogical activity and on the occasion of the International Teachers' Day.

Senior teacher N.M.Abdullayev was awarded by the university management on October 5, 2014, on the occasion of the International Teachers' Day, for his activities in the training and education of the young generation and his close participation in the public affairs of the university. He was awarded with an honorary decree by the Head of Sumgait City Executive Power dated June 29, 2022, for his effective scientific and pedagogical activity.

Senior teacher A.V. Asadova was awarded an Honorary Decree by the rector of Sumgait State University on March 7, 2023, on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 7, 2023, for her effective scientific and pedagogical activity.

Senior teacher S.M.Ahmadova was awarded an Honorary Decree by the rector of Sumgait State University on the occasion of March 8 - International Women's Day on March 7, 2019, for her effective scientific and pedagogical activity.

Teacher B.M. Jalalzadeh was awarded with an honorary decree on the occasion of March 8 International Women's Day and for her active participation in the city's public life by the order of the Sumgait City Executive Authority dated March 5, 2022.
