On November 24, lecturers of Department of Electrotechnics and energetics of the Faculty of Physics and Electroenergetics and the students of specialty of Electroenergetics, Electric and Thermal energetics engineering visited Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station under the guidance of Department head docent Nadir Hajibalayev for acquainting with equipment of the station and the processes which are taking place there.

Deputy Chief Engineer of the station Khayal Jafarov and head of Technical security department Isa Khanmatov welcomed our delegation sincerely at Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station and gave wide information about the plant.

They noted that reconstruction works commenced at Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station with the initiative and administration of National leader Heydar Aliyev in the years of independence. “Substantial reconstruction works were done in 2010-2017 as a continuation of this process. On February 27, 2018 President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev participated in the ceremony of putting into operation of 424 MW Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station. This plant has a special place in energy provision of Azerbaijan. It has always played substantial role in meeting the demands of Azerbaijani people and economy to electric power. In 1941, the order was adopted on the construction of this plant and in 1945 about exploitation of its first relay. But beginning of II World War caused postponement of construction works. Only in 1945, it was possible to launch the construction of the power station. Construction works completed in 1955. So, Mingachevir Hydroelectric Power Station started to work with 360 MW power. Water storage of the station has enough water reserve for long-term use”, they notified.

It was pointed out that 2 turbines and generators were substituted with new ones with the 71.5 MW power. 200 MW autotransformer was instituted and 330, 220 and 110 voltage substations were reconstructed with local management systems.

More than 100 km power, control and measure cables were installed for providing connection among these substations. As a result of implemented works, the power of the plant is increased up to 424 MW. New administrative building has been constructed, low voltage distribution devices and constant and current equipment were completely changed. Capital restoration works were carried out in machine hall of the station. Local management systems instituted in substations were integrated with central management system and energy system is directly connected with central management system. At present 130 employees are working in the plant.

Students expressed their gratitude to rector of university Professor Elkhan Huseynov, dean of the Faculty docent Tamella Ahmadova, vice-president of Azerenergy OJSC Guliyeva Z.M., Deputy Chief Engineer of the station Khayal Jafarov and head of Technical security department Isa Khanmatov for creating circumstances for them in applying theoretical knowledge into practice.
