On November 26, the training was held entitled “Successful oil strategy of National leader Heydar Aliyev” at Heydar Aliyev Center of Sumgayit State University.

Rector of University Professor Elkhan Huseynov hailed attendees and spoke about Azerbaijani history of oil, the place and impact of petroleum in the fate of the country and the role of Heydar Aliyev in the advancement of oil industry. He noted: “Azerbaijan is one of the countries that owns rich natural resources. But our people could gain the chance to use these natural resources, especially petroleum only at the end of XX century, after restoring state independence. New oil strategy carried out by Heydar Aliyev and oil diplomacy prepared for realization of the strategy turned this chance into reality. Signing “Contract of the Century” in Baku in 1994 with the initiative and leadership of Great leader and successful oil strategy of Azerbaijan has made the country one of the leading states of the region. “Contract of Century” was signed, despite all obstacles. First oil was extracted and for producing it, oil pipelines were constructed in 2 directions – Baku-Novorossiysk and Baku-Supsa. After that the discussions began about Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. “Contract of the Century” was a significant project not only for our country, but also for the countries that cooperate with our country in the field of energy security and oil production. In general, “Contract of the Century” was an important part of new oil strategy of Heydar Aliyev. This project is kept on in accordance with new requirements by President Ilham Aliyev and provides dynamic development and reforms”.

The following people delivered speech in the event: dean of the Faculty of History and geography Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev – “Successful oil strategy of National leader Heydar Aliyev”, head of the Department of Azerbaijani and Eastern European nations’ history Professor Shirkhan Salimov – “Political aspects of Contract of Century”, II course student of the Faculty of Engineering Ulkar Abiyeva – “Oil factor in socio-economic development of Azerbaijan”, docent of Department of Azerbaijani and Eastern European nations’ history Elmar Khalilov – “New Contract of Century is a continuation of Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy”, senior lecturer of the Department of Economics Saadat Humbataliyeva – “Oil contracts in Azerbaijani economy”. They spoke about oil strategy in Azerbaijan and development of other fields of economy in the result of successful implementation of this strategy. They notified that petroleum has always had an important role in socio-political and cultural life of Azerbaijan. “Contract of Century” was a starting point of Heydar Aliyev’s oil strategy. He directed oil outcomes to the advancement of state economy. So, his strategy caused economic independence and improvement of our country.
