On November 16, the seminar was held entitled “Ecological problems in Azerbaijan and their solution ways” by the lecturer of Department of Foreign languages Jala Mammadova and Jack Morris for I course master students of Faculty of Chemistry and biology.

The seminar launched with the information about history and geography of our country and went on with ancient and modern Baku, advancement of Azerbaijani chemical industry and ecological condition of territories around Bibiheybat mosque. The object of the seminar was exploring and discussing ecological problems in our country, knowing the attitude of Jack Morris to these problems as an ecologist, conducting survey about the problems in his country and informing about innovative ecological technology. The seminar continued in a form of debate, with the attendance of lecturers of Foreign languages department.

It is worth to note that Jack Morris has come to Sumgayit State University via Fulbright program from United States of America for sharing his knowledge and experience with students as a teacher assistant. He is an ecologist by specialty.

Master students of the Faculty of Chemistry and biology prepared presentations on these problems. Firstly, master student of group M317A, ecologist by specialty Narmin Salimli delivered presentation on “Ecological problems of our country” and spoke about ecological issues in the Republic. The student of group M314, chemist by specialty Nabat Abdullayeva’s presentation “The nature of occupied territories” got the attention of Jack Morris. She gave information about geography of our regions (Kalbajar, Lachin, Shusha) and their ecological conditions. Her second presentation was about Metsamir Atom Electrical Station, which is located in the territory of Armenia and the danger of the station. The student of group M314A, biologist by specialty Chinara Mehdiyeva delivered presentation “National parks of Azerbaijan” and spoke about Azerbaijani National reserves and parks (Hirkan, Agh gol, Goygol, Maral gol). Afterwards, student of group M316 Sevda Mammadova displayed her presentation “Harmful foods” and spoke about injurious substances inside popular brand beverages. She showed determination methods of excess of sugar in the food.

Jack Morris expressed his satisfaction on this meeting and noted that the master students own broad outlook. He talked about American national parks, ecological problems and innovative methods applied in this field. At the end, Jack Morris thanked to SSU administration and employees of the Faculty of Chemistry and biology for organization of the meeting.
