AN EVENT “SOLDIER WILL” HELD AT SSU

On April 5, an event was held dedicated to a victory gained in April fights by the organization of SSU faculties of History and geography and Mathematics. First, the martyrs were commemorated with a minute’s silence and state anthem was sounded.

Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov talked and analyzed the events happened in front line in April, 2016. He noted that in 2016, on April 1-2 Azerbaijani positions and settlements were exposed to intense artillery fire by Armenian military forces. They broke the ceasefire and norms of international law in front line regions of Azerbaijan – Aghdam, Tartar, Goranboy, Fizuli and Aghjabadi; fired intensively from large-scale weapons, mines and grenade launcher, artillery weapons. Azerbaijani army prevented the attack and as a result of military operations numerous manpower and military equipment were destroyed. In four-day fights our army liberated altitudes around Talish village which might be dangerous for Goranboy region and Naftalan city; control was taken over strategic Leletepe altitude which allows controlling large area. Frequent events are held on April fights at SSU. Students and alumni of our university joined public and military fights for independence from the first days. For showing their support to our soldiers the students held meeting in the university yard. Rector also noted that 2015 year alumni of physics and electroenergetics faculty Mikayil Vahabov (born in 1993) heroically became a martyr. Employees and students always keep his memory dear; his heroism will never be forgotten. Our martyrs are our proud and dignity. As the President Ilham Aliyev says April fights is glorious history of Azerbaijan: “April fights show strength of our state, nation and army. Today, Azerbaijani flag is waving in Fizuli, Jabrayil and Aghdara regions that were freed from invasion. These battles show that Azerbaijan will never reconcile to invasion and will restore its territorial integrity no matter what.”
