Historians held a scientific seminar on the topic “The role of women in our homeland’s history”
On March 6, a scientific seminar on the topic “The role of women in our homeland’s history” was held on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day, organized by the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples of the Faculty of History and Geography. First, the memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of the republic was commemorated with a minute of silence, followed by the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Dean of the Faculty of History and Geography, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev opened the event and said that Azerbaijani women have played an important role in solving the fateful issues of our people at all stages of our history and have made valuable contributions to the development of society. Adil Bakhshaliyev emphasized in his speech that the foundation of women’s policy was laid by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and this political course is successfully continued today by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. He noted that ensuring gender equality is one of the main socio-political priorities of the Azerbaijani state today. In order to strengthen the role of women in society and develop gender policy, the country is implementing a series of state measures. In this direction, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children's Issues plays an important role in resolving women's rights and social issues.
At the seminar, Head of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples, Professor Shirkhan Salimov delivered a report on the topic "The Role of Women in the Development of Statehood, Socio-Political and Cultural Life in the History of Azerbaijan". He noted that in the history of Azerbaijan, women have always been one of the important pillars of society. They have actively participated in the preservation of statehood traditions, the formation of socio-political processes and the development of cultural heritage at different times, and have left an indelible mark on the history of our people with their activities. A fourth-year student of the Faculty of History and Geography, Ellada Zargarova delivered a speech on the topic "The Role of Young Women of Modern Azerbaijan in Social Life". After the speeches, the seminar continued with discussions around the topic.
