The Faculty of Mathematics of Sumgayit State University organized an event titled “Gender Equality and Women’s Rights in Azerbaijan” on the occasion of March 8 - International Women’s Day. Teachers and students participated in the event organized by the Department of Mathematics and Informatics Teaching Technology and Student Scientific Society of the Faculty, Student Youth Organization and Student Trade Union Committee. The aim of the event was to emphasize the importance of the principles of gender equality in society and to draw attention to the role of women in science, education and public life. Head of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics Teaching Technology, Associate Professor Maftun Heydarova opened the event with an introductory speech and noted that gender equality is of great importance for modern society. She stated that the active participation of women in education, science and public life is one of the important conditions for the development of society. Then, the senior lecturer of the department, Vusala Suleymanova made a presentation on the topic “Women’s footprint on the stage of history - equal rights mean a strong society” and provided information about the role played by women in the development of society throughout history and the stages of the formation of gender equality. As part of the event, a skit reflecting the position of women in society from the past to the present was demonstrated with the participation of students, and musical numbers were presented. Then, a video clip prepared by the teacher of the department Khavar Karimova on the social and cultural activities of the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva was presented. Then, certificates of gratitude and congratulations were presented to the female employees of the faculty. The event ended with the closing speech of the dean of the faculty, associate professor Khalida Hasanova, and holiday congratulations were conveyed to women.
