On February 26, a commemorative event was held in Sumgayit city on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. Head of the Sumgayit City Executive Power, Zakir Farajov, deputies, heads of law enforcement agencies, the administration and faculty of Sumgayit State University, families of martyrs, veterans, Khojaly residents and representatives of the city community attended at the event. The participants of the event first visited the monument erected in memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, laid flowers in front of it and commemorated the memory of the martyrs with a minute of silence. The head of the Sumgayit city executive power, Zakir Farajov, met with the residents of Khojaly and emphasized that the Khojaly tragedy committed on the night of February 25-26, 1992, was one of the most serious genocidal crimes committed not only against the Azerbaijani people, but also against all humanity. The event emphasized that as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War and the local anti-terrorist operations carried out in September 2023, the sovereignty and constitutional structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan were fully restored, and the victims of Khojaly were avenged. It was also noted that the state constantly pays attention and care to the families of martyrs, war participants and residents of Khojaly. At the same time, various projects and initiatives are being implemented to convey the truths of Khojaly to the international community.
