On February 9, within the framework of the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture", sports competitions in table tennis, checkers and volleyball began with the joint participation of employees of Sumgayit State University (SSU) and Sumgayit State Technical College. The competitions were organized by the university"s Sports Club and Trade Union Committee.
Acting Rector of SSU, Corresponding Member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov made a speech at the opening ceremony, spoke about the consistent state care shown to sports in our country and the targeted projects implemented in this area. He noted that Azerbaijan is known as an influential sports country in the world. Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev, Olympic Sports Complexes in accordance with modern standards have been built in all regions of the republic, and the material and technical base of sports infrastructure has been significantly strengthened. These complexes make a significant contribution to the development of sports, increasing their popularity and raising the young generation in a healthy spirit. A. Sadigov emphasized that Azerbaijan has successfully hosted numerous prestigious international sports competitions and continues this tradition. He also drew attention to the competitions held at the university in various sports, the achievements achieved and the work done to develop sports at the higher education institution. He emphasized that such sports events are of particular importance in terms of promoting a healthy lifestyle, as well as strengthening cooperation and solidarity between teams. In conclusion, wishing the participants success, he expressed confidence that the competitions will be held in a high sporting spirit.
After the official part of the event, the competitions continued with table tennis matches. A total of 8 teams participated in the competitions held in a tense and interesting competition. According to the final results, the team consisting of departments was awarded first place, the team of the Faculty of Natural Sciences was awarded second place, and the team of the Faculty of Mathematics was awarded third place.
