On January 22, the Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Science and Education (MES), Hikmat Alizadeh, Deputy Chairman Parvana Mammadova, Secretary Gunay Akbarova, and members Mirza Jafarzadeh and Sevinj Mahamaliyeva visited Sumgayit State University (SSU) to observe the exam session of the fall semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. They, together with the heads of the relevant structural divisions of the university, were in the auditoriums where the exams were held and the process was watched. They talked with the students, listened to their opinions on the organization of the exams, and at the same time got acquainted with the exam questions. During the observations, it was emphasized that the exam session was organized in accordance with regulatory requirements, and transparency and objectivity were ensured in the assessment of knowledge. Then, during a meeting with members of the Public Council, the acting rector of Sumgayit State University, corresponding member of ANAS, Aminaga Sadigov stated that the examination session was held in accordance with relevant instructions and regulations, and that all conditions were created for this. He also noted that the Appeals Commission and the Examination Headquarters operate to ensure control over the assessment of students" knowledge and to promptly receive and investigate applications. Aminaga Sadigov provided information about the modern educational environment at the university, the consistent and systematic reforms implemented to modernize the content of education and improve the quality of education. He noted that in 2025, the number of those admitted to Sumgayit State University for bachelor"s degrees increased by 29 percent compared to the previous year, and the admission rate for master"s degrees increased by 21.5 percent. In addition, Sumgayit State University was included in the "QS World University Rankings" for the first time according to the results of 2025, ranking 1001–1200 among 8467 universities from 106 countries of the world. In this prestigious ranking list, which includes only 9 higher education institutions out of 51 universities in Azerbaijan, SSU stood out as the only higher education institution among regional universities, taking 7th place. Also, SSU was included in the “Times Higher Education Impact Rankings” for the first time in 2025, ranking 1501+. As a logical continuation of these achievements, the “Creation of a new curriculum for the master"s degree in “Chemical Engineering” at Sumgayit State University” project, funded by bp, was successfully implemented, an updated curriculum was developed that meets modern requirements, and high-tech laboratories were established. At the same time, an agreement was reached on the establishment of a “Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering” laboratory at SSU with the financial support of SOCAR. All these measures implemented serve the strategic goal of the university - the preparation of competitive and highly qualified personnel in accordance with the requirements of the labor market. Work is ongoing at the university to form a comprehensive infrastructure and a favorable learning environment for students to develop their knowledge and skills. During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on adapting curricula to the labor market, applying innovative and digital technologies, professional development of teachers, a student-oriented approach, integration of scientific and practical skills, expansion of university-industry cooperation, development of scientific and research activities, inclusive education and other relevant issues in order to improve the quality of education, and proposals from members of the Public Council were listened to.
