The next meeting of the Scientific Council of Sumgayit State University (SSU) was held on January 16. The meeting was opened by the chairman of the council, acting rector of SSU, corresponding member of ANAS Aminaga Sadigov who greeted the council members. He highlighted the university's most important successes and achievements in 2025, spoke about the priority tasks ahead, and the new responsibilities and opportunities that the status of a public legal entity brings to the university's activities. He also touched upon the important ideas expressed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with local TV channels, regarding the strategic importance of science and education in the development of human capital. Aminaga Sadigov emphasized that the challenges of the modern era place new demands on universities, and SSU must respond to these challenges with flexible, innovative, and purposeful activities. Then, the Scientific Secretary, Professor Mukhtar Samedov brought the issues on the agenda to the attention of the council members. The agenda was put to a vote and approved. The first issue was a report on the results of the scientific activities of Sumgayit State University for 2025. Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, Associate Professor Elshad Abdullayev and faculty deans made reports on this issue. It was noted that during the 2025 calendar year, 21 people at the university received a PhD degree, 3 people were awarded the title of professor, and 5 people were awarded the title of associate professor. Also, 95 scientific articles were published in impact factor journals, 66 of which were published in prestigious journals included in the international scientific databases SCOPUS and Web of Science. These indicators were considered commendable and the importance of further strengthening activities to increase them was emphasized. At the meeting, faculty deans, heads of departments and other structural units were instructed to intensify the scientific activities of the teaching staff and increase the number of articles published in journals included in international summarization and indexing systems in order to strengthen and improve SSU's position in the QS international rankings. The results of the scientific activity of Sumgayit State University for the 2025 calendar year were positively assessed by the Scientific Council. The next item on the agenda of the meeting was the discussion and approval of the university's research plans for the departments for 2026-2030. The deans of the faculties made speeches on this issue. After the discussions, the research plans for the departments of Sumgayit State University for 2026-2030 were approved. With this, the Scientific Council has completed its work.
