A Presentation on the “Seawater Desalination Plant” Project Held at Sumgayit State University
On December 19, a wide-ranging presentation and discussion was organized at Sumgayit State University dedicated to the "Caspian Sea Water Desalination Plant" project, which is planned to be built in Sumgayit by the Saudi Arabian company "ACWA Power". Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations of the university, Associate Professor Elmar Khalilov spoke at the event and emphasized the strategic importance of the project. He noted that the decline in water resources on a global scale has become a serious problem. The current situation is pushing many countries to search for alternative water sources, and desalination of sea and ocean waters is considered one of the most effective solutions in this regard. The vice-rector said that the growing demand for both drinking water and agricultural water in Azerbaijan makes the implementation of such projects necessary. In this regard, the Presidential Decree "On measures to implement a pilot project in the field of drinking water production through seawater desalination" makes a significant contribution to strengthening water security in the country and gradually eliminating existing problems. Then, the social expert of '5 Capitals' company, Vusala Rustamova made a presentation on the topic "What is desalination?" and provided information about the technical characteristics of the project and the benefits expected for the region. She emphasized that the plant to be built in the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park will not only be in line with the country"s water security strategy, but will also play an important role in meeting the growing water demand of rapidly developing industrial zones and the population.
At the end of the event, a wide exchange of views was held on the project, questions of interest to the participants were answered, and discussions on the topic were held.
