On December 18, a debate was held focusing on the topic “The teacher factor in education and the supportive role of artificial intelligence”, jointly organized by the Department of Teaching Technologies of Mathematics and Informatics and the Student Scientific Society. The Head of the Department, Associate Professor Meftun Heyderova welcomed the participants and emphasized the relevance of the topic. In her speech, she drew attention to how artificial intelligence supports the teacher’s activity in the education system, the opportunities created to improve the quality of education and the main challenges faced in this field. Two teams – The Affirmative and The Negative- each consisting of 3 members participated in the debate. The teams presented their thoughts with 5-minute speeches, and then a mutual discussion and a question-answer session were held. The questions raised from the audience broadened the discussions and participants strengthened their arguments with additional facts and reasoning. At the conclusion of the debate, speeches were assessed by the jury. The evaluation criteria included completeness of content, justification of arguments, speech culture, and the ability to respond to counterarguments. By the decision of the judges, the team Negative was selected as the winner and awarded with honorary certificates. Other participants of the event were presented with certificates of appreciation. In the continuation of the event, a SWOT analysis was conducted on the course and results of the debate. At this stage, the chairwoman of the Student Scientific Society, Zarifa Samadzadeh made a speech and analyzed the scientific and organizational aspects of the debate, highly appreciated the activity of the students and emphasized that intellectual discussions of such a format play an important role in the formation of the student-scientific environment. She also stated that the Student Scientific Society will continue its activities in organizing such scientific and polemical events in the future. Finally, the dean of the faculty, Associate Professor Khalida Hasanova made a speech and congratulated the participants, emphasizing that such intellectual and scientific debates play an important role in the development of students' analytical thinking, critical approach and communication skills.
