As a result of its consistent activities implemented in the sustainability field, Sumgayit State University (SSU) ranked in 1129th in the “UI GreenMetric 2025” International Ranking. The university scored 4,712 points, increasing its performance by 500 points compared to last year. This rise is an indication of international recognition of SSU’s projects and initiatives implemented in the direction of a green campus and environmental sustainability. The “UI GreenMetric 2025” rating is the first global system that evaluates the campus infrastructure of the worldwide higher education institutions, energy and climate changes, waste management, efficient use of water resources, green transportation, sustainable education and research. The ranking assigns an overall score based on 51 indicators across 6 main categories. The 2025 ranking includes 1,745 universities from 105 countries across Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia. Among the 19 universities from Azerbaijan included in the ranking, Sumgayit State University ranked 12th and was selected for its sustainability-oriented activities. The results in the categories further strengthened SSU's positions. Thus, it was ranked 5th in the country in the infrastructure field and 8th in the energy and climate change category.
