On December 5, a Republican scientific conference was held on the topic of “Heydar Aliyev – a great figure of history”, dedicated to the dear memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev as part of “The Year of Constitution and Sovereignty”, jointly organized by the Science and Education Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Sumgayit State University (SSU). Before the event, participants laid flowers in front of the bust of the Great Leader built in the university lobby. After that, the conference was declared open with a minute of silence of the dear memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and our Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Afterwards, a video clip dedicated to the life and activities of the Great Leader, was shown. Acting Rector of the university, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Aminaga Sadigov opened the conference with an introductory speech. He welcomed the participants and members of the Parliament, emphasized the importance of the scientific event organized at SSU. He noted that the conference will continue for several days and reports on the life and activities of the Great Leader will be heard with the participation of students, teachers and other employees of the faculties and departments of the university. A.Sadigov noted in his speech that the participation of Members of the Milli Majlis who play an important role in the socio-political life of our country, gives special importance to the conference and is an significant event not only for SSU, but also for Sumgayit City. A.Sadigov recalled the declaration of 2025 as “The Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” by President Ilham Aliyev and spoke about the creation date, supremacy of the constitution, and the decisive role in the state governance. He noted that in this context, various scientific conferences, seminars and educational meetings were held at SSU in accordance with the action plan approved by the Ministry of Science and Education. He drew attention to the comprehensive development of Azerbaijan during the years when Great Leader Heydar Aliyev led the country and said that in 1962-1982, dynamic progress was ensured in all spheres of the republic. New school buildings have been built as a result of the attention shown specially to the science and education field, the network of higher and secondary specialized educational institutions was expanded and their material and technical base was strengthened, and broad opportunities were created for young people to study at prestigious universities of the USSR. Purposeful work has been done to apply scientific achievements in industry. He specifically noted that he himself was one of the young people who took advantage of those opportunities. The Professor noted the exemplary role of Heydar Aliyev's personal qualities in the formation of young people, and said that one of the most valuable values for a person is responsibility, and the Great Leader has always been distinguished by his high responsibility, business acumen and purposeful activity, putting the interests of the state and the people above all else and resolutely protecting them. A. Sadigov recommended that young people also follow these qualities as guides in their lives. Chairman of the Science and Education Committee of the Milli Majlis, Professor Anar Isgandarov spoke at the conference, stated that the tradition of joint conferences of the committee with higher education institutions continues, noted that the event serves to discuss topical issues in science and education. He emphasized that Heydar Aliyev was a unique figure in Azerbaijani history who both created history and had history written about him. A.Isgandarov presented facts about the Great Leader's statehood legacy, the principled position he demonstrated in defending national interests, his invaluable services in strengthening the Azerbaijani language as the state language, and his role in forming the military personnel training system. In conclusion, he emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev, by successfully continuing the ideas of the Great Leader, has ensured the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and raised the international prestige and development of the state to a new stage. The conference was continued by members of the Science and Education Committee - professors Bakhtiyar Aliyev, Vasif Gafarov, Elnara Akimova, associate professors Mehriban Valiyeva, Jeyhun Mammadov, honored journalist Elchin Mirzabayli, and chairman of the SSU Student Trade Union Committee Elmin Novruzlu. The speakers extensively commented on the unparalleled services rendered by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of Azerbaijani statehood, the implementation of strategic projects, and the strengthening of our country's position in the international arena. All of the speakers emphasized one idea in particular: one of the Great Leader's greatest services to the Azerbaijani people was his great foresight and precision in determining his political successor. This choice, thanks to the President of our country, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, has led to the more rapid development of Azerbaijan and the full establishment of its independence and sovereignty. It was noted that even though years and centuries have passed, the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, who dedicated his life to the strengthening and development of Azerbaijani statehood, will always live in the hearts of our people with great respect and gratitude.
