On September 19, 2025, an event dedicated to State Sovereignty Day was held at Sumgayit State University, organized by the Faculty of History and Geography and the Student Trade Union Committee. The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a minute of silence was observed in memory of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and independence of our country. Dean of the Faculty, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev, Head of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science, Associate Professor Savvara Rzaguliyeva, Associate Professor Amina Hasanova and Chairman of the Student Trade Union Committee Elmin Novruzlu made speeches. The speeches touched upon the historical importance of state sovereignty and emphasized the invaluable services of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in protecting and strengthening independence. It was noted that State Sovereignty Day, established by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated September 19, 2024, is a symbol of the restoration of the full territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. At the same time, it was stated that as a result of the anti-terrorist operation that began on September 19, 2023 and lasted 23 hours, the Azerbaijani Army carried out all the tasks set before it with high professionalism, and the sovereignty of our country was fully restored. The students who spoke at the event emphasized that protecting independence and statehood is their highest goal. They said that the values of freedom and sovereignty of Azerbaijan will always be upheld.
