On May 1, Sumgayit State University hosted an event titled "English: One World, One Stage" organized by the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology.
The event was attended by the university administration, faculty and students. Opening the event, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Associate Professor Gunel Pashayeva emphasized that the event was dedicated to April 23 - World English Language Day and that the celebration of this day was related to the birth and death of the great English poet, writer and playwright William Shakespeare. She also noted that a series of events were held at the faculty on this day and that the event also had a kind of reporting character. The event, which was held according to a colorful and interesting scenario, featured selected scenes, poems and songs in English performed by students.
SSU graduates Gulnara Rustamli and Turana Bayramova, who participated in the event, spoke about how the English language influenced their careers and their success stories, and expressed their gratitude to their teachers.
At the end of the event, the rector of the university, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Aminagha Sadigov spoke and emphasized the importance of such events in terms of increasing young people's interest in classical literature and forming their moral and aesthetic worldview. He noted that language and literature have international value, the role of the English language and literature in world culture and science, and especially the uniqueness of Shakespeare's work. He noted that the rich creative heritage he gave to humanity has occupied an irreplaceable place not only in English literature, but also in the entire world dramaturgy for several centuries.
Aminagha Sadigov also highly appreciated the students' active participation not only in the field of science and education, but also in cultural and mass events. He emphasized that this is a clear indicator of the comprehensive development of Sumgayit State University students. He cited the moderator of the event, Zarifa Samadzadeh, as an example, and informed the event participants that she was admitted to the Mathematics Faculty of SSU with very high scores, speaks fluent English, and also actively participates in cultural and mass events, and expressed his confidence that the number of such students at SSU will increase year by year.
