A round table was held on the topic “Constitution and Sovereignty - A Look at History” in connection with the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in our country by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, at Sumgayit State University (SSU) on January 24. The event was jointly organized by the Heydar Aliyev Center of SSU and the Student Trade Union Committee (STUC). First, the dear memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated with a minute of silence. Opening the event with an introductory speech, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations, Associate Professor Elmar Khalilov noted that Azerbaijan has gone through difficult trials since regaining its independence, and that with the return to power of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1993, the country has become stronger and has embarked on a great path of development. He also emphasized that the first Constitution, prepared under the leadership of the Great Leader and adopted by popular vote (referendum) on November 12, 1995, created the basis for democratic, legal and secular state building in our country. Dean of the Faculty of History and Geography, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev delivered a report on the topic "Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan: Evolution and Challenges". He noted that the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty" coincides with a period when the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country are fully restored. In 2025, both the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution and the 5th anniversary of our victory in the Patriotic War will be celebrated. Then, speeches were heard by Aysha Amrahova, a second-year master's student at the Faculty of History and Geography, on the topics "Constitution: Legal and Political Foundation of the State", and Aydin Gasimov, a second-year student, on the topics "National Sovereignty: Ensuring the Independence of the State".
