The first female deputy commander in Azerbaijani military history visited SSU On December 20, Sumgayit State University (SSU) hosted an event titled ‘Legendary Woman in the Karabakh War’ with the support of the Center of Excellence. The event was dedicated to the first female deputy commander in the military history of Azerbaijan, police major, and poet Aida Shirinova. The employees and students of our university, as well as the families of martyrs, Aida Shirinova’s comrades-in-arms who participated in the First Karabakh War, public figures, and honored teachers attended in the event. Delivering the opening speech, Elmar Khalilov, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations, thanked the organizers of the event on behalf of SSU Rector Rufat Azizov, and then informed the participants about Aida Shirinova and gave a floor to her. Aida Shirinova began her speech with a poem, shared her war memories with the participants, and advised young people to live and let live. Later, a film about Aida Shirinova was shown at the presentation of the event host Aygun Hajiyeva. During the event, the Director of the Center of Excellence, Ali Rzayev, spoke about the life and work of Aida Shirinova. He suggested that the students get to know the poetess' work better. At the end, the students asked Aida Shirinova questions. Our students, who actively participated in the question-and-answer session, were presented with Aida Shirinova's book ‘ Ey türk oğlu qalx ayağa !’
