September 27 is celebrated as Memorial Day in Azerbaijan. In this regard, as everywhere in our republic, the memory of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland is remembered with deep respect at Sumgait State University. In connection with the Memorial Day, the faculty and students of the university first visited the Martyrs" Alley complex in Sumgait city, commemorated the memory of our heroes who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of the Motherland, and laid carnations on their graves. Then the management, professors and teaching staff of Sumgait State University visited the memorial monument of the students and graduates who rose to the peak of martyrdom, laid flowers in front of the monument, and commemorated the souls of our martyrs who died for the freedom and territorial integrity of our country with a minute of silence. Associate professor Elmar Khalilov, vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university, spoke about the path to great Victory in the Patriotic war and pointed that today four years have passed since the beginning of the Patriotic War, which was written in golden letters in the military history of Azerbaijan.Our people celebrate Memorial Day as the beginning of Victory Day. In response to the next military aggression of the Republic of Armenia against our country, which began on September 27, 2020, under the leadership of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The vice-rector said that the life path of our martyrs is an example, for new generations. He drew attention to the fact that in the battles for the territorial integrity of our country, the graduates of SSU also showed heroism and rose to the top of Martyrdom. Our people honor the memory of the martyrs not only today, but always. Later, an event was held on the occasion of Memorial Day. Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev, the dean of the faculty of History and geography of the university, spoke about the military and political processes on the long road to the Karabakh Victory of Azerbaijan and talked about the brilliant victory achieved by our army in the Patriotic War under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Then Aysel Shamilova, senior lecturer of the history department of Azerbaijan and Eastern European peoples, gave a speech on "The Patriotic War - a glorious page of our modern history". The following students also made a speeck related to the topic: Nubar Osmanova, a graduate student of the faculty of History and geography, spoke on the topic "Anti-terrorist operation - complete restoration of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan", and Rahil Jafarov, a third-year student of the same faculty. At the event, a video depicting the war path of Martyr graduates of SSU, who died in the 1st and 2nd Karabakh wars, as well as in the April battles, was shown.
