On September 16, an event was held at Sumgait State University (SSU) on the occasion of the beginning of the new academic year and "Knowledge Day". Academic and administrative staff of SSU, students, graduate students and their parents participated in the event organized in the yard of the university.
First, the dear memory of National leader Heydar Aliyev and our martyrs who died for the freedom of our land was commemorated with a minute's silence and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.
The Rector of SSU opened the event with an opening speech, associate professor Rufat Azizov, and congratulated all employees of the university on the occasion of "Knowledge Day" and the beginning of the new academic year, as well as first-year students who won the title of student of SSU in the 2024/2025 academic year, and their parents. Evaluating all the successes achieved in recent years as the result of the reforms implemented within the framework of the programs signed by the President of the country Mr. Ilham Aliyev regarding the development of education and the special care of our state in this field, the rector spoke about the road map, goals and advantages of SSU and gave information about the new content programs implemented.
Rufat Azizov stated that from the academic year 2024/2025, within the framework of joint cooperation with "Landau School", the specialties "Teaching Chemistry" and "Teaching Mathematics" will be taught in English at the undergraduate level. For the first time, admission to Information security and industrial engineering majors is also underway. Starting from this year, both undergraduate and graduate levels of SABAH groups, MBA programs, as well as "Chemical Engineering" graduate program with a new content with the BP company will be taught.
The Rector also noted the students' study in Turkiye within the framework of the exchange program, the "Center of Excellence" created to promote the academic and personal development of students studying at SSU, and the effective organization of their free time, as well as the international relations of the university, for the first time in the history of the university. He spoke about the cooperation with Oxford University, close relations with large industrial enterprises of the country and our city. He pointed out that today SSU, which is a treasure of knowledge and experience of the industrial city, is in sight of development and difference. In the current year, our university was also included in the QS International Ranking of European Universities, and a significant increase was observed at Sumgait State University in the entrance exams for higher education institutions this year. So, compared to previous years, 20 students with indicators higher than 500 points and 205 students with indicators higher than 400 points were admitted to our university.
Noting that SSU, which is the only higher education institution of the city and region, is currently experiencing a period of development, the rector said that the conditions created for the training of students as qualified personnel are admirable and recommended to take advantage of these opportunities.
Then Zarifa Samadzade, who scored the highest score in the entrance exams for the bachelor's level at SSU, and Nubar Osmanova, who achieved the highest result in the admission to the master's degree, congratulated their fellow students and wished them success in their educational life.
The event ended with the anthem of the university and the song "Azerbaijan".
