Associate Professor Rashad Salimov, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Sumgayit State University, participated in the XX International Botanical Congress held in Madrid, Spain, on July 21-27. The International Botanical Congress (IBC) is the most important international gathering of scientists involved in various fields of botanical research, held every six years by the International Association of Botanical and Mycological Societies (IABMS). The most important results obtained in various fields of plant biology are discussed, the results are summarized, and prospective directions of research are determined at the International Botanical Congresses organized since 1900. Also, one of the most important functions of the Congress is making additions and amendments to the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants.
During this one week, nearly 3,000 members of the international botanical community from around the world gave talks on botany and mycology covering six main topics, from biodiversity and conservation to systematics, global change, genetics, ecology, biogeography, evolution and phylogeny.
At the Congress, Rashad Salimov delivered a report on "Study of the phylogeny and biogeography of the genus Scutellaria", and also gave detailed information about the achievements of the molecular phylogenetics, intrageneric classification and biogeography of the genus "Scutellaria" conducted by him, and answered questions. There were also 4 different e-poster presentations on the study of the flora of Azerbaijan, co-authored by Rashad Salimov.
Such prestigious events create a broad scientific platform for future collaborations, joint research, as well as sharing of ideas and experiences on current issues and problems of plant biology and mycology.
