On April 22, a scientific-practical seminar dedicated to ‘International Earth Day’ was held at Sumgait State University under the organization of the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Engineering within the ‘Year of Solidarity for the Green World’.

The Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations of the University Elmar Khalilov opened the seminar with an opening speech, greeted the participants, spoke about the importance of holding COP29 in our country, and that the declaration of 2024 as the ‘Green World Solidarity Year’ by the President Ilham Aliyev"s Decree is not only for our country, but also a global challenge for the whole world.

The head of the Department of Ecology, Associate Professor Rahila Ahmadova gave a speech and gave detailed information about the program of the event. She said that Earth Day is an international action aimed at protecting the environment. The purpose of celebrating this day is to draw people"s attention to the problems of environmental pollution, preservation of the living world, existing in specially protected natural areas. In order to contribute to the measures implemented in the direction of ensuring a high-quality ecological environment in our country, environmental education works are regularly carried out in this direction at SSU.

Then Vusal Ibrahimli, head of Karabakh Regional Department No. 12 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, made a speech and stated that one of the main challenges of the 21st century is ensuring ecological balance. Today, each of us should enjoy nature and stand guard over nature. For thirty years, not only our historical, cultural and religious monuments and infrastructure in Karabakh, but also every stone and soil of these places have been subjected to Armenian terror. During these years, the nature of Karabakh was completely destroyed as a result of environmental terrorism. Today, the victorious state of Azerbaijan carries out the restoration of greenery in addition to construction works in our lands freed from occupation. Wide horizons have opened up from environmental terrorism to a green world.

Later, Elmar Musayev, head of department of Sumgait City Regional Office No. 4 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Holding greening actions in the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the International ‘Earth Day’, Nilgun Selimzadeh, III year students of the Faculty of Engineering of Sumgait State University, ‘Carbon emission reduction way’, Aida Mammadzadeh ‘The impact of deforestation on the environment’, Laman Huseynova ‘Pollution of the hydrosphere’, Banu Salmanova ‘Water resources and ecological situation of Karabakh economic regions’, Gulsum Mammadova ‘The need to switch to alternative energy sources’, Ecology of the Faculty of Engineering of SSU Ulkar Gasimova, a first-year student of the specialty, gave speeches on ‘International Earth Day’.

The reports, which were received with interest, led to a wide discussion of the seminar participants and a wide range of opinions were exchanged on the topic. Certificates were presented to students distinguished by their activity in the seminar.

Later, the participants of the seminar contributed to nature by participating in the tree planting action in the yard of the university.
