THE ENGLISH TEACHERS OF SSU COMPLETED THE TRAINING “DEVELOPING AND TEACHING ACADEMIC WRITING” SUCCESSFULLY
On the initiative of the Language and Translation Center of SSU, the director of the Center Zhala Mammadova and several teachers of the department of Foreign languages successfully completed the training “Developing and Teaching Academic Writing” organized by the US department and the Baku American Center on July 1-31. This training was provided by Iowa State University, USA and through the CANVAS // (OPEN) Online Professional English Network (moocs.openenglishprograms.org). The five-week training covered the following topics:
1. To develop an understanding of the main components of an academic writing course
2. To develop an understanding of the writing strategies of the teaching process;
3. To develop an understanding of the principles of composing of argumentative writing:
4. To develop an understanding of the principles of teaching source citation:
5. To develop an understanding of best practices for assessing writing and providing feedback
In the end, 5 modules corresponding to the training topics were presented, and SSU English teachers successfully completed these modules and were awarded with the Academic Writing Development and Teaching Certificate. The scientific results which obtained in the training will be applied in Academic reading and writing classes taught at the higher school level.
