On May 20, the 6th debate-speech tournament dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev on the topic "Human capital is more important than natural resources in the economic development of countries" was organized by the debate club of Student Youth Organization of SSU.

First, the dear memory of the national leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev, was commemorated with a minute"s silence.

The event was opened by vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations, associate professor Elmar Khalilov gave full information to the participants about the importance of the debate and the honorable life path and rich activities of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He noted that Heydar Aliyev increased the prestige of the country with his far-sighted domestic and foreign policy during his leadership, achieved comprehensive development.

The vice-rector also talked about the attention and concern of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the youth policy of modern Azerbaijan, towards the young generation. In order to successfully implement the youth policy, the National Leader ensured the formation of the necessary legislative framework in this area. On February 2, 1996, the first forum of independent Azerbaijani youth was held at the initiative of the National Leader. On February 1, 1997, on the occasion of the anniversary of the forum, the Great Leader received a group of young people, signed the Decree on the announcement of February 2 - Azerbaijan Youth Day. Currently, as a result of the successful continuation of this policy by  President  Ilham Aliyev, young people actively participate in the development of our society, get high achievements in various fields, and play a special role in strengthening statehood.

He stated that such competitions not only promote Heydar Aliyev"s heritage, but also have a positive effect on educating young people in a patriotic spirit.

Then Elmin Novruzlu, the chairman of the Student Youth Organization, talked about the importance of the debate for the future life of students. He stated that the main purpose of holding the debate is to provide students with detailed information about the debate, and to support for  training  professional debaters by ensuring that they are involved in future projects and trainings.

Later, Anar Gurbanov, chairman of the "Debate  Club" of SSU, gave information about the tournament and noted that the main goal of the tournament, which was held on the theme "Human capital is more important than natural resources in the economic development of countries" to raise the interest for debate among the students .

The competition was managed by the judges of the Debate Civil Society, along with the judges of the students of our university.

It should be noted that 14 teams participated in the Debate Forum. The winning team will be determined next week.
