On May 19, an event called "Cultural capital of the Turkic world - Shusha" was organized by the department of Geography and its teaching methodology of the faculty of History and geography of Sumgayit State University.

At the event, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played first, then the dear memory of the martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.

The event was opened by the dean of the faculty, professor Adil Bakhshaliyev, spoke about the restoration and construction works carried out in our liberated lands after the 44-day Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020 and ended with a historic victory, and the signing of the historic Shusha Declaration. He stated that the declaration of 2022 as the "Year of Shusha" by the Decree of the President of the country, Ilham Aliyev, made everyone joyfully. Those who founded the city of Shusha and built the fortress of Shusha were the owners of the land of Azerbaijan. This is a great monument from our ancestors. Shusha is a dear city not only for the residents of Shusha, but for all Azerbaijanis, for every citizen who loves his homeland and nation.

Then Zoya Abdullayeva, associate professor of the department, gave a speech on "Directions of socio-economic development of Shusha city". He said that the declaration of Shusha as the cultural center of the Turkic world in 2023 created additional opportunities for taking more large-scale measures and implementing projects in this direction. The revival and rapid development of Shusha city will have a positive effect on the development of the region as a whole.

At the event, the lecturer of the department, Afshan Babashova, delivered a report on the topic "The role of tourism in the development of Shusha city" and noted that currently the city of Shusha is  formed in the territory of the Karabakh economic-geographical region. Recreation potential, wealth of historical and cultural monuments, beautiful natural-forest landscapes, healing waters, clean mountain air, mountainous and plain terrain open many opportunities for developing different types of tourism.

Then Imran Shakiyev, a student of the faculty group number 838, "Physical-geographical position of Shusha" and Jala Babazadeh, a student of group number 842, made speech on "Shusha-the peak of historical victory".
