The jubilee events of Sumgayit State University, which has shown loyalty to the ideology of Azerbaijanism and has made contributions to the progress of education and science in the country are widely celebrated in the cities and regions of our republic.

Rector of BSU   Elchin Babayev, university professors and students, rector of SSU professor Elkhan Huseynov and his delegation took part in the event organized at Baku State University on November 11.

The participants of the event first arranged flowers to the bust of the great leader Heydar Aliyev erected in the lobby of the university.

Rector Elchin Babayev received the delegation led by rector of SSU professor Elkhan Huseynov around the round table and expressed his pleasure to see them in the university and congratulated the staff of Sumgayit State University on the occasion of the 60th anniversary and conveyed his good wishes.

Then the meeting continued at the Heydar Aliyev Museum of BSU. Rector of Baku State University Elchin Babayev made a speech and noted that the science and education policy founded by the great leader Heydar Aliyev are successfully implemented by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and First lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Higher schools take responsibilities for defining and implementing the main perspectives of the development of education in the country based on national and worldwide traditions. SSU also has a special place in the implementation of these tasks. Since 1962, SSU, which started functioning as a teaching base of the Azerbaijan Oil and Chemical Institute, became an independent Azerbaijan Industrial Institute in 1992. The creation of this educational institution has given impetus to the process of training personnel in technical fields that contribute to the development of the economy and industry of Sumgait, to the transformation of the city with environmental problems into a healthy zone, and to the development of science, education and culture. With the decree of national leader Heydar Aliyev "On improving the education system in the Republic of Azerbaijan" dated June 13, 2000, Sumgayit State University operated on the basis of Azerbaijan Industrial University. Currently, SSU is taking successful measures to become a university with highly qualified personnel that meets international standards. New approaches in the management system create a foundation for the development of education, science, and the application of modern technologies.

The rector noted that there are successful cooperation relations in various fields between BSU and SSU, which contribute to the development of the science and education policy of our country. Scientific cooperation, organization of defenses, internship of the scientific-pedagogical staff at BSU, participation in conferences serve to further strengthen the relations between these two universities.

Rector of Sumgayit State University professor Elkhan Huseynov expressed his gratitude to BSU management and staff for the initiative of organizing the event dedicated to the anniversary, and gave detailed information about the university. He pointed out that this university which has rich traditions and a historical past has rendered its services not only for our country, but also for the development of education in the region during 60 years. From the time of its establishment, SSU has always fulfilled its duties properly and has successfully carried out the work of training scientific and pedagogical personnel for our republic and a number of other countries.

Rector Elkhan Huseynov reminded that he is also a graduate of Baku State University and noted that BSU is extremely close and dear to him. Because the pleasant memories of his life were connected with Baku State University. This university played an important role in the development of his career.

Then a video was shown about the activities of Sumgayit State University and its achievements.

Vice-rector of BSU for Science and innovations Huseyn Mammadov and academician Vasif Babazade made a speech and congratulated all professors and teachers of Sumgait State University on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.

Later, vice rector for Science and innovations of SSU, honored teacher professor Ramazan Mammadov, dean of the faculty of History and geography professor Adil Bakhshaliyev, deputy dean of the faculty associate professor Osman Hajiyev, associate professor Sona Maharramova, head of the department of History and its teaching methodology spoke about the history, activities and achievements of the university. They noted that the university is taking necessary steps to improve the content and quality indicators of higher education by benefiting from advanced scientific achievements and innovative teaching and learning technologies.

At the end, a memorial gift was presented to SSU on behalf of the administration of Baku State University.
