On April 9, a debate-oratorical tournament on "Higher education is necessary for personal development" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University was organized by the Student Youth Organization and the Debate Club.

Chairman of the Free Trade Union Committee, associate professor Elmar Khalilov greeted the participants, noting that science is of exceptional importance in the development of any society. Today, in our country  which aims to build a knowledge-based society, special attention is paid to the development of science, high attention and care is paid to people studying and working in the field of scientific activity. Training of highly qualified scientific personnel in accordance with the requirements of modern times is considered to be one of the priority tasks facing higher education institutions. Associate professor Elmar Khalilov said such events were a great contribution to the development of modern Azerbaijani youth.

Chairman of the Debate Club Emil Mammadov reported on the tournament. He noted that 36 teams took part in the Debate Forum. The competition was judged by the judges of the Debate Civil Society, along with the judges of our university.
