SSU HOSTS AN EDUCATIONAL EVENT UNDER THE MOTTO "END INEQUALITY, END AIDS!"
December 1 is World AIDS Day. This date was established to draw the attention of the world community to the fight against HIV, which has become a global pandemic. For this purpose, an educational event was held under the motto "End Inequality, End AIDS!" on December 7, in the Great Assembly Hall of Sumgayit State University, the Republican AIDS Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan together with the Sumgayit city branch of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society.
The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs, Associate Professor Ramiz Huseynov, who greeted the participants. He spoke about the measures taken by the Ministry of Health at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has created a number of global problems for the international health system. He noted that the AIDS epidemic is one of the most serious problems in the world in the field of infectious diseases.
Noting the importance of awareness-raising activities to prevent this infection, the vice-rector noted that the holding of traditional events in this direction at SSU is the result of attention and care for the health of young people. Speaking about the state policy pursued in this direction under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the Vice-Rector noted that the young generation in our country has always been treated with great care.
In his speech, the Vice-Rector spoke about the devastating effects of bad habits on the human body, the damage they cause to society and human health, the social evils they cause, and drug addiction. He said that drug addiction is a contagious disease. What's more, it's a terrible path to AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). He stressed that in order to achieve more effective results in the fight against drugs, to protect young people from this scourge, everyone must work together to create a healthy lifestyle, awareness among adolescents and young people should be kept in focus, special attention should be paid to promoting national moral values.
At the end of his speech, Associate Professor Ramiz Huseynov spoke about the negative aspects of drug addiction, which is a scourge of the XXI century, and advised teenagers and young people to stay away from harmful habits, to show interest in various sports and intellectual games.
Speaking at the event, Matanat Maharramova, head of the Sumgayit branch of the Red Crescent Society, spoke about the impact of drugs, smoking and alcoholism on human life, the consequences of which are one of the greatest scourges for mankind.
Lamiya Shahmammadova, Head of the Sumgayit Regional Laboratory of the Republican AIDS Center, made a presentation entitled “HIV infection / information on AIDS”. She gave detailed information about HIV infection, infection detection, research history, social characteristics, as well as ways of infection. She noted that the purpose of the event was to support a comprehensive approach to the prevention and control of AIDS and to educate students.
Then the topic was discussed and the questions of the students were answered.
Then, the staff of the Sumgayit branch of the Center for AIDS Control conducted laboratory tests for students for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. Students were given booklets and brochures, medical masks, disinfectants prepared for the prevention of AIDS.
At the end of the event, the organizers thanked the university administration for the created conditions.
