On November 2, on the eve of November 8 - Victory Day, a poetry and song contest was launched among the students of Sumgayit State Technical College under Sumgayit State University and SSU in order to instill and promote patriotism among the youth.

The chairman of the jury in the poetry and song competition was the teacher of the department of literature of Azerbaijan and foreign countries prof. Rafig Aliyev, members: Afat Rafiyeva, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Literature of the Faculty of Philology, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Literature Aftandil Mammadov, junior researcher of the Folklore SRL Balakishi Isgandarov, associate professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science Telman Ganiyev, senior lecturer of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science Afag Ganiyeva.

First, the souls of our martyrs who died for the freedom and territorial integrity of our Motherland were commemorated with a minute of silence.

Shafiqa Kazimova, Master student of Engineering Faculty, spoke about the historic victory of the Azerbaijani Army over the occupying Armenian forces under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the important role of a series of events dedicated to Victory Day at Sumgayit State University in promoting our glorious history and patriotic upbringing of the younger generation. She noted that the purpose of the competition was to instill in young people the historical significance of the great victory of our people in the Great Patriotic War, to promote the spirit of military patriotism in the younger generation, to increase students" interest in speech culture, art, poetry and art.

Then poems and songs were performed by the students. The selection round was conducted by the jury.

In the end, 3rd year student of the Faculty of Philology Ulker Akbarova took the 1st place, 5th year student of the Faculty of Economics and Management Aliya Alizadeh took the 2nd place, 4th year student of the Faculty of Philology Shabnam Abishova took the 3rd place, 4th year student of the Faculty of Philology Aytaj Heydarova took the 1st place. Tural Hasanov, a third-year student of the Faculty of Philology, and Ilaha Farhadzadeh, a first-year student of the Faculty of Philology, and Huseyn Mammadov, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Physics and Electrical Engineering, were awarded third places.
