On April 15, Sumgayit State University hosted an online Republican scientific conference on "Modern problems of chemistry" dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi.

Representatives of 11 higher education institutions and 7 institutes of ANAS operating in our country took part in the conference.

Opening the conference, SSU Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Professor Ramazan Mammadov, conveyed the greetings of Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov to the participants and noted the importance of the conference. The Vice-Rector spoke about the historic victory in the 44-day Patriotic War thanks to our Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the heroic Azerbaijani soldier, noting that the victory has become a source of pride and pride for our people.

The memory of the martyrs of the Great Patriotic War was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Vice-rector Professor Ramazan Mammadov spoke about the importance of the conference on "Modern problems of chemistry" dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi. He said the aim was to discuss the latest achievements in the field of chemistry, identify new directions, develop scientific relations between research institutes and universities. The professor also noted that Sumgayit State University organizes events and conferences at the national and international levels in all scientific directions online, and this process continues successfully.

The Vice-Rector said that during the rule of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, special attention was always paid to Azerbaijani culture, national and spiritual values, and it is a logical continuation of this policy to declare 2021 "Nizami Ganjavi Year" in Azerbaijan by the order of President Ilham Aliyev. According to the order, a large-scale action plan is envisaged to ensure a high level of celebration of the jubilee of Nizami Ganjavi, a prominent representative of Eastern poetry, a great Azerbaijani poet.

Then Mutallim Abbasov, associate professor of "Reactive and diesel fuels" laboratory of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes of ANAS delivered speech on "Methods of using distance learning technologies in teaching school chemistry course", head of the Laboratory of Biomimetic Polymers of the Institute of Polymer Materials of ANAS Sevil Mashayeva on "New representatives of smart polymers", Head of the Department of Chemistry and its Teaching Methods of Sumgayit State University Associate Professor Musa Mustafayev on "Study of 2-Propenyl-5-methylphenol production and catalytic hydrolysis reaction", Deputy Dean of the Master's Department of Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry Matlab Atayev on "Improvement of the process of drying granular materials in the pseudo-hot layer".

Executive Secretary, Head of the Department of Chemistry and its teaching methods, Associate Professor Musa Mustafayev informed about the further work of the conference. He said that about 170 articles and theses submitted to the conference, 110 of them were included in the conference program through anti-plagiarism program.

The conference will last for two days in 6 sections.
