On October 15, Sumgayit State University hosted introductory meetings of first-year bachelors and masters.

The meeting took place in the context of social distance and hygiene, given the risk of spreading the disease during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

It should be noted that the students visited the relevant faculties in accordance with the schedule in the announcement posted on the university portal.

Rector of SSU, Professor Elkhan Huseynov met with first-year students at various faculties. He congratulated the young people who won the title of student and wished them new success in education. He thanked the students and their parents for choosing SSU and taking their first steps in this higher education institution, and recommended them to mature as high-level specialists and true citizens.

He noted that the military operations carried out by Azerbaijan on the frontline since the end of September, which lived its historic days, resulted in the liberation of some of our occupied lands. Now the Azerbaijani flag is flying in those areas. Today, on behalf of all our people, we can say with great pride that Azerbaijan will sooner or later liberate the occupied territories. The rector called on everyone to unite closely around the President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Ilham Aliyev.

Then the rector, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, said that the meeting was held in a new format in accordance with the pandemic period, unlike in previous years, at the university, which has a rich tradition of science and education. He advised students to protect themselves from coronavirus (Covid-19) infection, emphasizing the importance of each student wearing a medical mask during training, maintaining social distance and strictly following the rules of hygiene.

Giving information about the history and modern stages of development of the university, the rector said that Sumgayit State University is a higher education institution that has undergone more than half a century of historical development, trains highly qualified specialists, has a strong material and technical base and expands international relations. Emphasizing that modern technological opportunities are widely used at the university during the meeting, the rector said that these innovations make the educational conditions of students more accessible. He noted that SSU, which has a modern management system, makes a significant contribution to the country"s economy in the training of highly qualified personnel.

The deans of the faculties congratulated the young people who won the title of students, spoke about the state care for education and youth, wished the teachers and students success in education and life. They informed the students about the conditions created for students at SSU, the activities of existing centers in higher education, the organization of education with the credit system, student mobility, online classes via Microsoft Teams and ZOOM platforms, rules for using electronic data and library in various formats, etc.

After receiving detailed information about the university, the students first visited the Center named after national leader, prominent statesman Heydar Aliyev, looked at photos depicting the Great Leader"s childhood, adolescence, studentship, work in the State Security Committee, years in power.

Each student got acquainted with the auditorium and laboratories equipped with modern equipment, the training room for foreign students, the Erasmus + Petra training and learning center, the Erasmus + Moodle electronic laboratory, the Linguistic Center and the open-air Electricity Training Museum and high-voltage substation. They were interested in the material and technical base of the educational institution, the quality of education.

Then the students got acquainted with the chess board created in the yard of the university, football, volleyball and basketball courts with artificial turf, and kiosks for table games for the effective organization of leisure time. It was noted that our students regularly practice football, table tennis, fencing, badminton, shooting, volleyball, chess and checkers at the sports club. The attention and care for sports at the university is reflected in the growing success in the field of sports. The achievements of our student-athletes in national, European, Asian and world-class sports competitions, which have already become a tradition, are a source of pride.

The conditions created at SSU, the pleasant and caring attitude were welcomed by the students and they said that the introductory meeting gave them a good impression and high mood.

During the meeting, students were presented with video discs and a memory book prepared by the university on the occasion of Knowledge Day.

It should be noted that the introductory meetings of bachelors and masters admitted to the first year with the university will last until October 16.
