On September 23, “British Council Azerbaijan”, in partnership with the Nizami Ganjavi Center at Oxford University, held a webinar (online conference) on "Urban Communities in Medieval Azerbaijan: A New Light on the Historical City of Barda". Scientists from the Nizami Ganjavi Center at Oxford University presented the results of archaeological excavations and research in Barda, the capital of Caucasian Albania, which was one of the goals of the Christian kingdom and the first Islamic conquests.

The research conducted by the Center for the History of the Caucasus, which is a strategically and culturally important part of our modern world and has a long, rich and diverse history, is focused on filling the gaps in this area.

The event was also attended by the British Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mr. James Sharp, and the Director of the British Council in Azerbaijan, Mr. Summer Xia.

The webinar was attended by Katie Campbell, a doctoral student at Oxford University, and Ashleigh Haruda, a zooarcheologist at Europe's leading research centers (Archeology at University College London, Exeter University, Central Natural History Collection at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg), Edmund Herzig, Masoumeh and Fereydoon Soudavar, professor of Iranian studies at the University of Oxford since 2006 and researcher at the Oxford Nizami Ganjavi Project since 2016, and Irish archaeologist David Stone, Irish Research Council, Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholar and Fulbright Creative Ireland Museum Fellow at the School of Archeology, University College Dublin, Dr. Paul Wordsworth, a specialist in archeology at Oxford University. They made presentations and speeches in the webinar.

Leyla Najafzade, an orientalist from Azerbaijan, a member and administrator of the Oxford Nizami Ganjavi project, moderated the event and organized discussions with the speakers. Samira Mammadova, Ph.D in history, head of the Department of International Cooperation and Foreign Students from Sumgayit State University, Nigar Mammadova, methodist of the same department, Sarvan Badalov, senior lecturer of the Department of History and its Teaching Methods attended the event live. At the end of the speakers' presentations, the audience's questions were answered.
