On December 26, a celebratory evening was held at the Linguistic Center of SSU, dedicated to the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis from all over the world and the New Year. The event was organized by students of the Russian language course and attended by 24 students from 5 faculties: Faculty of Philology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, History and Geography, and Physics and Electroenergetics.

Head of the Linguistic Center Alik Abdullayev opened the festive evening and congratulated the participants on the occasion of December 31 - World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and New Year. Noting the importance of studying foreign languages, he notified that it allows students not only to learn a set of certain grammatical rules, words and expressions, but also makes it possible to learn a new, sometimes unexplored world of culture and traditions of the people whose language they study. And this, in turn, contributes to the expansion of horizons and the formation of the worldview of students. All these factors will allow them to better navigate in the modern complex and contradictory world.

At the event, students spoke about the history of the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day. They noted that the main idea of the holiday was the unity and solidarity of the world Azerbaijanis, a sense of patriotism. They also expressed their gratitude to the rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov for the Linguistic Center instituted by him for free learning and improvement of foreign languages.

Then students talked about how the New Year is celebrated in various countries of the world, and of course, in Russia. Poetry, songs, humorous dialogues were sounded in Russian. Everyone especially liked the staging of S. Mikhalkov’s fable “Elephant-painter”.

The poem competition was held and according to the results of the competition for the best performance of the poem, the jury awarded the first place to the first-year student of the Faculty of Mathematics Alizade Elnaz, who read S. Yesenin"s poem “White Birch”. Prizes were also awarded to Aliyev Islam, the third course student of the Faculty of Physics and Electroenergetics and Aliyev Orkhan, the first course student of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology.

In conclusion, the students expressed their gratitude to the staff of Linguistic Center for organization of the event and to the Russian methodologist of the Center Gasimova Shafag for preparation of this festive evening.
