Global challenges provide rapid change in the system of higher education. Ensuring competitiveness in higher education depends, first of all, on the level of scientific research conducted at universities, the creation of a new academic environment, and the educating of young researchers. As a result of the cooperation, established in 2015, between the Ministry of Education and Clarivate Analytics, access to the Web of Science information platform of 40 universities was provided. As a result of universities' access to the world's leading Web of Science database and the efforts of local researchers, scientific productivity and the effectiveness of research activities have increased significantly. Sumgayit State University is an official user of the best database of the world, Web of Science. In September 2019, Web of Science launched an updated series of free webinars (on-line seminars on how to use the Web of Science database), and SSU staff members took active part in three-month on-line courses: head of the Scientific Section, associate professor Samir Orujov, senior methodologist of the Scientific Section Sevda Shahverdiyeva, head of the Department of Electrotechnics and Energetics docent Nadir Hajibalayev, associate professor of the Department of Mathematical Analysis and Functions theory docent Vusala Babajanova, docent of the Department of Solid and Semiconductors physics Khayala Aliguliyeva, senior lecturer of the Department of Mathematics and its teaching methods Ulviyya Aliyeva, operator of the Center of Information Technologies Ulvi Aghayev. They were awarded the certificates by the Web of Science Group.
