On December 27, the ceremonial event was held at Sumgayit State University on occasion of December 31-the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis and the New Year.

University rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov congratulated the staff on these significant dates and expressed confidence that the coming 2020 will bring success to both our people and our education. He spoke about the history and significance of the holiday of solidarity of world Azerbaijanis, the merits of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the development of statehood and strengthening the solidarity of world Azerbaijanis. The rector noted that as the head of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in 1991, the national leader Heydar Aliyev declared December 31 as the Day of Solidarity of the Azerbaijanis of the world. It was noted that as a result of the activities of President Ilham Aliyev, the policy, the foundations of which were laid by the national leader, is successfully continuing and developing. Rector Elkhan Huseynov also said that 2019 was remembered in Azerbaijan by a number of significant events in science, economy and culture. Our country, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, is confidently and successfully developing.

The event was continued with a festive concert. The concert program was attended by Honored artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aygun Zeynalova, young performers Samir Piriyev, Vagif Shikhaliyev, Vugar Bakhtiyar, Esma Ashrafli, Tarana Nurlu, Roza Karimli and the student dance group "Sama".

Then, an amateur group of the University performed “Nagara show” and the songs “Odlar Yurdu” and “Yasha, yasha Azerbaijan!”.
