According to the decision of the Academic Council of SSU dated 29.03.2017, the Department of Philosophy and Law and the Department of Sociology and Political Science were merged to create the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science, and since that year the department has been headed by Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor, Rzaguliyeva Savvara Dovlat gizi.

The department conducted systematic and phased scientific research on the topic "The impact of socio-economic development of regions on the social structure of the Republic of Azerbaijan" in 2021-2025.

Awards

The head of the department, associate professor S.D. Rzaguliyeva, was awarded an Honorary Decree in 2009 for her achievements in pedagogical activity, in 2012, an Honorary Decree of the Republican Committee of the Free Trade Union of Education Workers of Azerbaijan, on November 3, 2017, the “Advanced Education Worker” badge by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2019, an Honorary Decree by the Sumgayit City Executive Power for her active participation in the public life of the city of Sumgayit, in 2017, the head teacher, Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy Hajiyev Osman Yusif oglu, was awarded an Honorary Decree of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his effective scientific and pedagogical activity in the preparation of highly qualified personnel, and the head teacher, Bunyadov Zahid Vahab oglu, was awarded an Honorary Decree by the Sumgayit City Executive Power in 2014.

In 2021-2025, Jabrayilova Farida Sayadulla, Adigozalova Gunel Rustam, Ganiyeva Afag Abdul, Madadzade Konul Mahir, Gasimova Naila Zaman, and Farhadova Jala Famil were awarded Honorary Certificates for their Activity in the University's Public Life.

In 2025, Nasirova Nargiz Mahammad was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her effective activity in the work done to include SSU in the QS World University Rankings.
