Department of Geography and its teaching methods
According to the decision of the Academic Council of Sumgayit State University dated 11.07.2024 (protocol No. 08), in accordance with the structural changes carried out in the faculties, the Department of History and its Teaching Methods was merged with the Department of Geography and its Teaching Methods and renamed the Department of History, Geography and Methodology. The department is headed by Associate Professor Maharramova Sona Sabaddin gizi.

Main scientific publications of the department in recent years:
Over the past 5 years, the department's staff has published 10 textbooks, 7 monographs, 70 subject programs, 2 methodological manuals, and more than 700 articles and theses (about 90 of them abroad, including in prestigious journals such as SCOPUS and Web of Science). The department's staff has prepared syllabi for all subjects taught at the bachelor's and master's levels. The department's staff has scientific ties with the A.A. Awards:
Associate Professor S.S. Maharramova was awarded the ‘Taraggi’ medal by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 16, 2022, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University and for her services to the development of education in Azerbaijan.Associate Professor S.S. Karimli was awarded an Honorary Certificate by the Committee of the Free Trade Union of Education Workers of Azerbaijan on October 5, 2016, on the occasion of International Teachers' Day, for his fruitful scientific and pedagogical activities. On October 5, 2021, he was awarded an Honorary Certificate by the rector of Sumgayit State University for his effective scientific and pedagogical activities and on the occasion of International Teachers' Day. Senior teacher N.M.Abdullayev was awarded an Honorary Decree by the university administration on October 5, 2014, on the occasion of International Teachers' Day, for his activities in the education of the younger generation and close participation in the public affairs of the university, and was also awarded an Honorary Decree by the Order of the Head of the Sumgayit City Executive Power dated June 29, 2022, for his effective scientific and pedagogical activities. Senior teacher A.V. Asadova was awarded an Honorary Certificate by the rector of Sumgayit State University on March 7, 2023, on the occasion of March 8 - International Women's Day, for her fruitful scientific and pedagogical activities.
