On February 27, Sumgait State University celebrated the 70th anniversary of Professor Akbar Agayev, an outstanding chemist, head of the university's Department of Petroleum Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

On this occasion, the rector of the university, associate professor Rufat Azizov, received professor Akbar Aghayev and spoke about the honorable life path of the jubilee, his effective scientific activity, and his contributions to the development of chemical science in our republic. He noted that the professor, who devoted most of his life to the training of qualified personnel at SSU, is the author of dozens of books, textbooks, as well as 18 inventions and patents. More than 110 of his scientific works were published in foreign countries. References to his scientific works are given in a number of monographs, magazines and scientific articles published outside the republic.

The Rector congratulated the scientist on his 70th anniversary and wished him success in his future activities.

Professor Akbar Agayev expressed his gratitude to the university administration for the high price given to his work.

It should be noted that Professor Akbar Agayev has been working at Sumgait State University since 1983. In 1995-2000, he served as vice-rector for international relations, in 2004-2006, as dean of the ‘Economy and Management’ faculty. Currently, he is the head of the Department of Petrochemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Professor Akbar Agayev was awarded with the international diploma ‘Well-known scientist of the 21st century’ by the decision of the award commission of the ‘Vector’ International Science Center. He was awarded with honorary decrees of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republican Committee of the Free Trade Union of Educators for his effective work in training high-quality personnel. In 2012, he was awarded the title of Honored Teacher of the Republic.
