Sumgayit State University held an awarding ceremony for the winners of the subject Olympiad dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, held among students of the 9th-11th grades.

The ceremony was attended by university professors and teachers, students who won the Olympiad, their parents and teachers.

The event was opened by the vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university, associate professor Elmar Khalilov, who conveyed the greetings of the rector, professor Elkhan Huseynov, to the participants and congratulated the students who won the Olympiad, their teachers and parents. The purpose of organizing such Olympiads is to identify talented children, to increase students" interest in subjects, to enable them to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a healthy competitive environment, and to expand university-school cooperation, as well as to help upper-class students for choosing their major in the future. Associate professor Elmar Khalilov gave detailed information on the history of Sumgayit State University, its activities, international programs and projects implemented, spoke that as stated in the Decree signed by the President of the country Mr. Ilham Aliyev in connection with the 70th anniversary of Sumgayit city. Sumgayit city is a center of science, education and still makes a worthy contribution to the overall progress of culture. Sumgayit State University is already one of the prestigious higher education institutions of the republic.

Congratulating the winners of the Olympiad, the deans of the faculty said that the future of our country is measured by the level of personnel we train today, the scientific potential of young people.Olympiads and knowledge competitions in various subjects play an important role in this direction and are held continuously. They pointed out that today"s event is one of the important events in the scientific life of not only the university, but also the city of Sumgait, they talked about the conditions created for the effective organization of students" free time at the university, and they wished the students to become worthy citizens of our country, regardless of what kind of art they will be carriers of in the future.

Then the winners were awarded with certificates and valuable gifts.
