AN EDUCATIONAL EVENT WAS HELD AT SSU WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF "HUMAN RIGHTS MONTH"
On June 12, Sumgayit State University held an educational event within the framework of "Human Rights Month" with the support of the Student Youth Organization and the Student Trade Union Committee.
Professors and students of Sumgayit State University participated in the event.
Associate professor Elmar Khalilov, vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university, opened the event , greeted the participants and informed about the purpose and importance of the educational event held within the framework of "Human Rights Month". Pointing out that the period between May 18 and June 18 is traditionally declared as "Human Rights Month" in our country by the initiative of the Ombudsman, the vice-rector gave the floor to the lawyer of the university, associate professor Amina Hasanova.
Docent Amina Hasanova noted that the decree "On measures in the field of ensuring Human and civil rights and freedom" issued by National Leader Heydar Aliyev on February 22, 1998, as well as the resulting taking into account the goals and tasks, on June 18, 1998, the Decree on the approval of the "State program for the protection of Human rights" was signed. Provisions related to the creation of an authorized ombudsman institution for human rights in Azerbaijan were reflected in these documents for the first time, and after that, on the initiative of the Great Leader, the Constitutional Law dated December 28, 2001 "On the Ombudsman for Human rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan" was adopted. This year, 25 years have passed since the approval of that State Program, which was the first strategic document in which the provision of human rights was defined as one of the main directions of state policy. According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev dated June 18, 2007, this date was established as Human rights day in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Associate professor Amina Hasanova also noted that this significant day has been widely celebrated in our country for more than 15 years and is highly appreciated by the society as a manifestation of the highest value given to human rights by our independent state. The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan traditionally declares "Human rights month" in the country from May 18 to June 18 every year.
This serves in the field of protection and promotion of the rights of everyone, regardless of their social and legal status - the families of martyrs, war participants, persons with disabilities, children, the elderly, refugees, former internally displaced persons, migrants and other vulnerable groups of the population, and to inform the public about the successes achieved. serves the purpose of informing, defining the tasks, developing legal thinking and legal culture in the society, drawing attention to fight against discrimination, corruption, violence, and harmful habits.
In the end, the speakers give the information  on the topic stated that the "National Action Program in the field of increasing the efficiency of the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan" is the logical continuation of the strategy in the field of human rights laid by our Great Leader and the next political will of the state, for the comprehensive implementation of human and civil rights.
The event ended with answering various questions of students about human rights and freedoms.
