On April 7, students of the faculty of History and geography of Sumgayit State University took part in a scientific conference dedicated to the 195th anniversary of the Turkmenchay Treaty at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sports.

First, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, the dear memories of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who died for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan were commemorated with a minute"s silence.

Later, a video about the Treaty of Turkmenchay was shown.

At the conference, Elshan Huseynov-the head of the sector of patriotism and citizenship education of the Ministry of Youth and Sports spoke the Treaty of Turkmenchay, signed on February 10, 1828 was a document that formalized the division of Azerbaijan into two, and that it was one of the saddest pages in the history of Azerbaijan.

Fuad Hajiyev, rector of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sports, informed about the Turkmenchay Treaty and stated that during the years 1805-1909, one million Armenians were resettled on the lands of Azerbaijan. He noted that every young person should know the history of Azerbaijan very well.

Deputy minister of Youth and Sports Indira Hajiyeva, head of the department of "New History of Azerbaijan" Institute of History of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences named A.A. Bakikhanov Haji Hasanov, dean of the faculty of Education of Mingachevir State University Nizami Zeynalov and students of the faculty of History and geography of Sumgayit State University spoke about this treaty. They said that this agreement was the beginning of the policy of division of Azerbaijani lands. With this document, the foundation of ethnic cleansing and genocide of Azerbaijanis was laid. The agreement also has a positive ideological significance. Because it made us know our friend and our enemy and taught us to be careful with our neighbors today.
