The educational event "How can we use the effectiveness of mediation for better communication?" was held jointly organized by Sumgayit State University and the Mediation Council, on April 5.

In addition to professors and students of Sumgayit State University, the members of the Mediation Council - the head of Sumgayit No. 1 Mediation Organization Etibar Hasanov and the mediator of that organization Elchin Huseynov took part in the event.

Vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the University doc. Elmar Khalilov opened the event and greeted the guests and participants. He noted the relevance of the event, at the same time emphasized increasing the knowledge of the students of the higher education institution about alternative solutions to controversial issues, and the importance of cooperation in this direction. Elmar Khalilov noted that the legislative framework in the field of mediation has been created in Azerbaijan, but despite this, reforms are ongoing in order to popularize it in our society.

Senior lawyer of SSU, associate professor Amina Hasanova reported on the issue. The speaker first gave detailed information about mediation, a new addition to our social lexicon. Stating that mediation is an out-of-court solution to disputes, Amina Hasanova appreciated it as an opportunity for the parties to gain more information about the other party's position with the help of a mediator, to reassess their own position and gain opportunities for reconciliation during mediation. The report stated that the probability of the parties resolving the dispute in the mediation process is higher than 85%.

The Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 2016 "On the approval of strategic road maps for the main sectors of the national economy "and the "Law on Mediation" was adopted in March 2019, the chief lawyer said that Cabinet of Ministers adopted "Rules for conducting the mediation process" in this regard. The official implementation of the mediation process in our country began in July 2021, the speaker pointed out that the main goal of the meeting is to increase the awareness of young people about mediation and its importance.

Etibar Hasanov-head of Sumgayit Mediation Organization No. 1 and Elchin Huseynov - mediator of that organization "How can we use the effectiveness of mediation for better communication?" spoke on the topic. "Society is experiencing the adaptation stage of the mediation period" said Etibar Hasanov, emphasized the importance of education for the popularization of mediation, and about the role that young people can play in this work. The   speaker noted that the normative-legal basis of Azerbaijani mediation, which includes regulation in accordance with advanced world practice has been created with the support of international organizations. It was noted that the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Mediation" came into force two years ago, and relevant changes were made in other legislative acts.

Elchin Huseynov, the mediator of Mediation Organization No. 1 emphasized the relevance of mediation practice in civilized societies in the pre-trial settlement of any dispute and to   becoming it a common norm in our country related to with the enlightenment of our people. The mediation is conducted on disputes arising from civil, commercial, family, labor, and administrative legal relations.

In the end, the  students questions related to the availability of mediation, fees, concluding a marriage contract, the right of inheritance, giving alimony and other topics were answered and their proposals about mediation were heard.
