Azerbaijan is a land of historical monuments
On April 18, Sumgayit State University's Department of International Cooperation and Foreign Students, Faculty of History and Geography, Council of Young Scientists organized a round table on "Azerbaijan is a land of historical monuments" on the occasion of the International day of Monuments and Historical Places.
The event was opened by the dean of the faculty of History and Geography of Sumgayit State University professor Adil Bakhshaliyev  who greeted the participants and noted the importance of this day. Every year since 1983 April 18 is celebrated by the decision of  UNESCO as the International Day of Monuments and Historical Places. The purpose of this day is to draw people's attention to the protection of historical monuments and places. Historical monuments serve as a bridge from the past to the future. Azerbaijan is one of the first places where human civilization appeared. For this reason, the history of our people is reflected in the ancient settlements and numerous monuments. The monuments of our ancestors are an indicator of the people's past, ancient culture proving that they lived in these lands for thousands of years  have created a rich legislative framework in this area. The Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, adopted in 1995 stipulates that the protection of historical and cultural monuments is the duty of every person. In addition, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments” adopted on April 10, 1998 reflected the state provision for the protection of monuments, their importance, research and protection. The dean also noted that today  a worthy successor of the Great Leader's political course, President Ilham Aliyev is carrying out important work in the field of restoration, protection, promotion and research of our historical monuments. The multifaceted activities of the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as her work for the preservation of our national and cultural heritage, Azerbaijani culture and positive image in the world are met with great sympathy . At her  initiative, the inclusion of the Maiden Tower, Icheri Sheher, Shirvanshahs Complexes and Gobustan monuments in the UNESCO list of material and cultural heritage is appreciated by the international community and the country's community.
Then the head of the department of history and its teaching methods, associate professor Sona Maharramova "Heritage of historical monuments of Azerbaijan", employee of the Institute of History of ANAS named after A. Bakikhanov Faig Ismayilov "Armenian vandalism against historical and cultural monuments of Azerbaijan", senior  lecturer of the department of history and teaching methods , t.f.d. Samira Mammadova "Activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to restore our historical monuments", Jeyhun Gasimbayli, teacher of the department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples "Our victory in the 44-day war will revive our historical monuments", Gulnar Rzayeva -architectural monuments ” made reports. They said that there were historical monuments covering centuries and millennia everywhere in the country. These monuments and historical places with their appearance once again demonstrate that our people have a rich ancient history.
The orators  also noted that today the material and cultural monuments condemned to destruction in the territories occupied by Armenian executioners are being restored as a stone memory of our history, as our invaluable national treasures. These monuments are not only material and cultural examples, but also the bright pearls of our spiritual history. It always reminds us of who we are instills feelings of patriotism and loyalty to it.
