103 years have passed since the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic state in the East. The Azerbaijani state, which declared its independence on May 28, 1918, has carried out many historically significant works during its 23 months of existence. This day is celebrated every year as the Republic Day. As everywhere in the country, a series of events are held at Sumgayit State University. On May 27, in connection with the Republic Day, an online scientific-practical conference was held on "The bright page of our history - the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic".

Opening the conference, the rector of the university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, greeted the participants and congratulated our people on May 28 - Republic Day. He noted that the liberation of our lands from occupation by war last year was a great military-political success in the modern and independent history of our people. In this battle, Mr. Ilham Aliyev crushed the enemy's head with an iron fist! Thus, the glorious history of victory in the history of modern Azerbaijan was written. As a result of resolving the 200-year-old conflict, we have reaffirmed ourselves as a victorious nation and an invincible state.

Then the rector spoke in detail about the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was established for the first time in the Muslim East as an independent state and lasted only 23 months. He noted that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is one of the brightest pages not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the history of the Turkic world, the Muslim world and the East as a whole. The newly established Azerbaijan Democratic Republic has honorably fulfilled its difficult historical task. Azerbaijan regained its independence at the end of the 20th century and managed to preserve its sovereignty. Returning to power for the second time, national leader Heydar Aliyev took decisive measures to protect the statehood of Azerbaijan and established lasting socio-political stability in the country. Thus, the modern independent Azerbaijani state, a masterpiece of Heydar Aliyev, was established and embarked on a path of rapid development.

At present, Azerbaijan is achieving new successes under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, a worthy successor of the political course of our great leader Heydar Aliyev. . By the orders of the head of state, 2018 has been declared the "Year of the People's Republic of Azerbaijan" in our country, and the 100th anniversary of the People's Republic of Azerbaijan has been solemnly celebrated. Our people celebrate May 28 - Republic Day, the day of the establishment of the Republic, as a national holiday this year as well.

The rector also noted that one of the obvious examples of the ADR's great appreciation for the place and leaders in our history is the erection of the "Declaration of Independence" monument in Baku, the construction of the Flag Square in honor of the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan.

Later the speakers delivered speech accordingly: Astan Bayramov, Head of the Department of Folklore studies SRL, Professor of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and its Teaching Methods on "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is a bright page in the history of our independent statehood", Amirkhan Isayev, Associate Professor of the Department of History of the Peoples of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe, Head of the Career Center, "The Struggle of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic against the Armenians", Zohra Gafarova, Senior Lecturer of the Azerbaijan and Foreign Literature Department, "Measures of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in Education and Culture", Student Tacir Alizadeh made a report on "Foreign policy and the place of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in history". They gave detailed information about the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and its path and noted that the Azerbaijani people have a rich and glorious history of statehood. One of the most important pages of this history is the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on May 28, 1918 and its 23-month activity in very difficult conditions. Today, the modern independent Azerbaijani state is the historical and political successor of the Democratic Republic. The traditions created by the People's Republic are an important part of the rich statehood experience of our people. It is no coincidence that the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev has always had a special respect for the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and considered it important to study the history and heritage of the Republic.
