In 2021, the 880th anniversary of the birth of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi is marked. By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated January 5, 2021, this year has been declared the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi”. According to the order, a large-scale action plan is envisaged to ensure a high level of celebration of the jubilee of Nizami Ganjavi, a prominent representative of Eastern poetry, a great Azerbaijani poet. A series of events are being carried out in this direction at Sumgayit State University.

On March 29, the meeting was held in an online format with Scientific secretary of the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS named after Mahammad Fuzuli, researcher of Nizami"s heritage, associate professor Azizaga Najafov and a group of young scientists and researchers of SSU on "Scientific views of Nizami Ganjavi" dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi on the occasion of "Science Day".

The meeting was moderated by Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Khayala Mursaliyeva. She greeted the guest and the participants of the event and noted that the anniversaries of Nizami Ganjavi have always been solemnly celebrated in our country. She stressed that national leader Heydar Aliyev, who has always approached the classical literary and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan from the standpoint of national prejudice and patriotism, also paid special attention to the heritage of Nizami. The 840th anniversary celebrations of the immortal artist, held in 1981 with the direct initiative and participation of the Great Leader, have become a significant event in the cultural life of the country.

Prof. Ramazan Mammadov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, noted that Dissertation Councils and Young Scientists" Councils had been established at Sumgayit State University to organize the defense of doctoral dissertations in 6 specialties by the relevant decision of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He stressed that important steps have been taken at the university to involve young people in a wider range of scientific and scientific-organizational activities, and measures have been taken to actively participate in projects implemented under state programs. He noted that today"s meeting is also very important for young scientists and researchers.

Professor Ramazan Mammadov spoke about Nizami Ganjavi"s work and the state"s care for Nizami"s legacy. He said that Nizami"s immortal literary heritage is not only a source of humanism, love for people, high morals, aesthetic pleasure, education and knowledge, deep philosophical thought, wisdom, but also an inextinguishable torch that illuminates the darkest corners of our living history.

Scientific secretary of the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS named after Mahammad Fuzuli, researcher of Nizami"s heritage, associate professor Azizagha Najafov, in his report specially prepared for young scientists and researchers of SSU, spoke about the life and work of Nizami Ganjavi, a prominent representative of world literature.

Associate Professor Azizaga Najafov also noted that the whole life and rich literary activity of the great artist was connected with Ganja, which was not only the largest city of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus at that time, but also, known as an important cultural center of the Middle East. The poet lived and created here all his life and gave the world poetry valuable pearls of word art.

Sabir Khalilov, Head of the Doctoral and Master"s Department of SSU, spoke about the importance of the meeting.

Numerous questions of the participants were answered in the report, which was met with great interest by young scientists and researchers. There was a wide exchange of views on Nizami Ganjavi"s scientific views.
