Urgent measures are being taken to prevent the threat of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in Azerbaijan. Taking into account the suspension of classes due to taking necessary measures related to the coronavirus, in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the Ministry of Education, as in all faculties of Sumgayit State University, the educational process was organized online and immediately at the Faculty of Physics and Electroenergetics.

Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Electroenergetics, associate professor Tamella Ahmadova said that the work done in this area can be divided into three stages. In the first stage, it was decided to use WhatsApp instant messaging system. For this purpose, WhatsApp working groups on teaching groups and departments have been established. According to the schedule, online classes were organized on pre-determined dates. The texts of the lectures were passed to the students in advance and discussed in the form of questions and answers. At the same time, audio presentations of lectures were created using Power Point program.

Methodical instructions for laboratory work were given to students and it was recommended to study theoretical parts from them. Taking into account the use of some laboratory work simulation programs, students were asked to complete this work and submit their reports to teachers. This includes the use of EWB simulation software for laboratory work in the subject of power electronics and transmission control. In the second stage, the use of the Moodle system for the organization of distance education began. Every teacher and student of the faculty is registered in the Moodle system. As a result, each teacher created his own course, and students enrolled in these courses and had the opportunity to use teaching materials.

In the third phase, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Education, Microsoft Teams, a more capable corporate platform, was launched. At present, every teacher of the faculty is already registered, and the registration of students is coming to an end. All lectures, classes and laboratory work on groups have already been downloaded, and from today exam questions will be posted. Materials have been sent to students' e-mail addresses, and teachers keep in touch with students via WhatsApp. The advantage of the platform is the ability to organize video conferences. The staff of the faculty has already held such a pilot conference.
