On April 16, the event entitled “Biology sketches: serious and for fun” was held by the organization of the Department of Biology and its teaching methods of Chemistry and Biology faculty, dedicated to 70th anniversary of Sumgayit city.

Vice-rector for Science and Innovations Ramazan Mammadov made welcome speech, spoke about advancement of Sumgayit city, executed renovation and construction works and noted that a series of events is held at our university on occasion of 70th anniversary of Sumgayit. “The city has restored its reputation as industrial center. As a consequence of successfully implemented development strategy Sumgayit has become one of the most beautiful cities of Azerbaijan”.

Emphasizing significance of holding “Biology evening” and generally subject evenings in terms of increasing students’ interest to education and subjects, vice-rector professor Ramazan Mammadov noted: “The subject of biology encompasses essential knowledge and skills concerning the human, his health, social essence, relations with nature and psychological features. Holding such events is of great importance for the intellectual growth of the students. National leader Heydar Aliyev always cared about protection and enrichment of nature in our country during his administration. Successful projects carried out by the initiative of vice-president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Unity Leyla Aliyeva are of great importance.

Afterwards the students gave information about achievements gained in Sumgayit within 70 years and recited poems dedicated to the city. First sketch consisted of 4 competitions: “Quiz”, “Riddle and song”, “Let’s find”, “Do you know?”. Three teams competed: “Blood”, “DNA”, and “Cell”. The sketch “Drunk” dealt with the conversation of organs of alcoholic person; the sketch “Science and innovation” about research works conducted in the Department, the sketch “Bazaar” about harm of genetically modified fruit and vegetables to human health. The students displayed the expressions and gestures by lecturers mostly used in the lessons in “Parody” sketch. In the sketch “Our alumni” demonstrated the video of successful alumni of the university. The songs “Fruit” and “We are a kind family” were welcomed by attendees.
