A holiday event was held at Sumgayit State University dedicated to March 8 – International Women’s Day. In the event rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov congratulated all women employees and students on March 8, wished them family happiness and success in their social activities. 
Rector talked about state care for women, their high positions in society. He noted that today Azerbaijani women’s performances and activities are far more serious and essential in society. Women have been playing significant role in fate of our nation through history. In various periods of history proving themselves as faithful spouses, outstanding public figures and as professional specialists, women always work together with men shoulder to shoulder. Gender policy in Azerbaijan has been founded by Heydar Aliyev and is being continued by Ilham Aliyev. The President is sensitive to gender problems. As a result of the gender policy equal opportunities in all spheres of public life have been created for women. First vice-president of Azerbaijan, President of Heydar Aliyev Fund, goodwill ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban Aliyeva is one of the most famous Azerbaijani women who is able to be a mother and public figure at the same time. As a leader of Azerbaijani woman movement she is doing important works for progress of the country.
On the holiday Elkhan Huseynov presented Certificates of Honor and money awards to a group of female employees for their active participation in public life of the university. Also, some women were awarded with presents by Zakir Farajov, head of Executive Power of Sumgayit city.
The event continued with a concert program. Singers and “Sama” dance group of the university showed their performances.
