PARTICIPANTS OF SUMMER SCHOOL VISITED GOBUSTAN NATIONAL HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC RESERVE
On July 20, the participants of the Summer School “Travel to the Land of Fire Azerbaijan” visited Gobustan National Historical and Artistic Reserve.
The guests got acquainted with the exhibits of the museum created on the territory of the reserve and looked at the cave paintings. They were given information that the Gobustan National Historical and Artistic Reserve received great fame as an open-air museum-reserve. Numerous material and cultural samples reflecting the life of people who lived in this territory from the Stone Age to the Late Middle Ages were created for thousands of years by the ancestors of modern Azerbaijanis. Gobustan cave paintings are the richest in the world among monuments of this type. Scientists have identified over 6 thousand rock paintings, 20 caves and residences, 40 barrows on the territory of the reserve.
It was noted that taking into account the special significance of the extensive propaganda of unique rock paintings in the Gobustan reserve, a new building was constructed for the museum-reserve by the order of the head of state Ilham Aliyev.
The guests were informed that the Gobustan Reserve, which is a historical monument of world importance, has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2007.
The guests inquired about the archaeological research conducted in the reserve and expressed their satisfaction with the excursion.
